Happy International Women’s Day (IWD), everyone!
Celebrating 2014 International Women’s Day on March 8, the 2014 theme for IWD is “Equality for women is progress for all”. We came a long way for women’s rights and women’s freedom and equality. The progress was slow and excruciating, but with the endless effort and fights from the women all around the world everyday, now we have more women in power and in leadership, we have one woman in five members of parliament, and more than 139 countries guarantee women’s rights. But sadly, in so many parts in the world, in so many parts in this society we’re living in, gender equality is far from done. From UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka’s speech, the majority of the world’s poor and illiterate are women and girls, one in three women worldwide – in rich and poor countries alike – will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime, millions of women and girls are trafficked into modern-day slavery, and girls are mutilated and sacrificed to so-called child marriage. The truth is obvious, we still have a long way to go. The problem is enormous, and again our effort is challenged greatly in every way.
Women’s equality is not just about the basic human rights or to be even. It’s an necessity for all of us for our society and world. From UN secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s speech, countries with higher levels of gender equality have higher economic growth, companies with more women on their Boards have higher returns, and peace agreements that include women are more successful. Equality for women is progress for all, not just for women.

As PinKixx members already know, PinKixx is making our own efforts to help out women this year. As already announced, for 2014, PinKixx is helping non-profit organization, Girls Inc, with a portion of the total sales (except “Go Red for Women” in February and “Nat’l Breast Cancer Foundation” in October).
Please take a look around and see if there’s any help we can give this weekend. There are tons of great events going on all over the USA. Please check your local organizations for more information. Here are some useful sites for women to look up:
Please share what deeds you’re doing for women this year. 🙂
