It is hot. It is summer.

Everyone is heading to a beach every chance they get.

Blue sky, blue ocean…Blue seems to enlighten and relax people’s mood.

Blue is the most widely loved color for both men and women according to major surveys.

Blue means trust, honesty and loyalty. This is a color that seeks peace and tranquility above everything else, promoting both physical and mental relaxation.

It reduces stress, creating a sense of calmness, relaxation and order – we certainly feel a sense of calm if we lie on our backs and look into a bright blue cloudless sky.

No wonder blue is popular in jewelry in summer. That’s why a lot of our PinKixxes love blue turquoise and blue gemstone jewelry.

Here are some popular blue gemstone items from PinKixx for you to enjoy:

How to Choose Your Next Favorite Necklace Online

You keep buying crazy big statement necklaces that end up collecting dust on your shelf because you have no idea how to wear them?

You’re not alone!

You have your own jewelry collections, and there will be some you rarely wear.

There could be other reasons, but mainly, it’s two.

One, it doesn’t work with your overall wardrobe. Two, it doesn’t flatter you.

So how do you avoid making these same mistakes twice? Let’s look at a couple of options you should consider to find the best necklace for you.

1. Neckline

If you have a specific outfit in your mind when you buy a necklace, then see what neckline the top or dress is.

When wearing a buttoned up shirt, the attention is already focused on your face. Because there is not much space available to play with, choose a short necklace. A delicate pendant is a right choice to accessorize this outfit if you are the conservatory type, but if you are a fashion trendsetter, you will wear no less than a choker or a statement/bib necklace no longer than 18 inch.

Wear Long with turtleneck.

For V-neck, you don’t want to cover it with a massive necklace. You will want your cleavage to be the center of attention, so choosing a small pendant is the best choice. Chokers or Y necklaces work great with V neck. Light layers of necklaces will be great too.

General ideas are here:

14 inches Collar Tightly around the neck Open-neck clothing such as scoop necks, V-necks, off-the-shoulder and boatnecks
16 inches Choker Tightly against base of throat Almost everything
18 inches Princess On the collarbone Almost everything
20 to 24 inches Matinee Between the collarbone and the bust Great for both business and casual wear
28 to 36 inches Opera On the bust or an inch or two below High necklines and evening wear
36 to 42 inches Rope Wrapped to sit on or just below the center of the bust Elegant business and evening wear

If you have a wide neck and are considering shorter lengths, you may go up an inch or two in length.

2. Your Neck

A choker on a short neck can make that neck look stubby — and possibly wider than it is. Unfortunately, a wide short neck can’t rock a choker, especially a wide one, so don’t try. Instead, choose a necklace 20- to 24-inches long; this will elongate your type of neck and make it more swan-like.

Wrinkled necks need to stay away from short and tight necklaces too. Unfortunately, they draw the eye to those wrinkles — use a longer necklace, perhaps with a stunning pendant, to draw the viewer’s eye away instead.

3. Your Face

Now, let’s see your face. The common descriptors are oval, round, square and heart-shaped.

Oval faces can wear any length of necklace (keeping in mind, of course, height, neck and body size).

If you have a round face, you want to pick a longer necklace, possibly with a pendant or charm, ideally something that creates a slimming “V” as it glides away from your face. Avoid the round choker as it will make your round face look rounder.

The recommendation is exactly opposite for heart-shaped faces. The roundness of a choker will smooth out the heart shape’s planes and angles.

Long, rectangular faces also benefit from the roundness of the choker.

4. Your Height

We easily forget about height when we choose jewelry.

Women of average height and taller can wear just about any length necklace (although if you’re taller, a short chain may get lost on you).

But, short women may be overwhelmed by long necklaces and any chunky designs. If you’re 5’4” or smaller like I am, choose a length that sits on your collarbone or just below, and avoid too many layers of jewelry.

Must-Haves in Your Closet for Confident Women #4

So what else do we need in our closet as a confident woman?

I was originally going to do all accessories for this week, but accessory category is my very favorite subject, so I decided to go in details and to make this solo topic – SHOES!

1. Wedges

This is my most favorite kind of shoes. Wedge is simply so comfortable and so versatile for casual clothes I wear almost every day (and so needed in my city, LA). Not to mention, it gives you a height!

2. Heels for Fun

From sparkling evening wear to colorful weekend ones, every single one of heels gives a different mood and a different look. It’s like we need 100 pairs for 100 outfits?!

Stock some of heels you’d wear for fun. Simple and colorful ones are great for summer.

Animal print heels, Laced-up heels, and Metalic heels are also very  popular, and a lot of people consider them as “must-haves” too.

3. Heels for Business

No need to explain. Nude and Black pumps are necessary for any working girl.

Especially Patent Leather pumps go perfect for any important meetings you might have.

4. Sports Shoes / Sneakers

Running shoes, walking shoes, work-out shoes, sneakers…whatever you call them, they are so fashionable and so colorful these days, I feel like I should get rainbow collections.

Especially if you usually wear neutral colors for your business, this is a great opportunity to go as colorful as you want!

5. Flat Sandals / Slip Ons

After a long night out in those daring high heels, you need these.

Giving everyday dresses and jeans a chic Parisian flair, ballet flats / flat sandals / slip-ons are essential to your wardrobe.

To liven up the mood and to make easier to coordinate, pick up simple but bright color ones. Great with shorts too!

6. Knee-High (or taller) Boots

Tall boots, essential for fall or winter, are timeless.

They add big impression to a t-shirt and jeans look and are perfect with a long coat or a casual knee-length dress with a scarf.

7. Ankle Boots

Ankel boots are a total necessity for both jeans and dresses. It can add a little boyish charm and give your look some rough and tumble flexibility too.

5 Shoes Every Power Woman Should Own

Must-Haves in Your Closet for Confident Women #3

Too much? Too little?

Yes, we’re talking about your closet. Is it overflowing with clothes you don’t wear? Do you need to buy new clothes for change of season or career?

What fills up your closet? Today, we’re going to talk about what fills most of my closet.

It is basics, it’s ageless, it’s timeless, and it’s absolute essentials. That’s right. I’m talking about C-A-S-U-A-L!

1. Shirts

Long length t-shirt, short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, plain t-shirt, plain button-down shirt, long button-down shirt, long and shirt sleeve button-down shirt…now, the patterned or figury printed ones…and then onto the sleeveless ones… Yep, there are plenty.

As much as I believe nothing wrong with having many shirts in my closet, let’s be honest. We don’t really need that many.

When it comes to fashion, Mix and Match is your friend as I mentioned in the previous article. You can create many different looks with one shirt by using different accessories, bottomwears, or outerwears.

When it’s long, which is very popular now, it’s perfect to wear with tight pants or leggings.

Layering shirts is also a great fashion idea.

2. Jeans

Jeans, jeans, jeans. Can’t live without them, and can’t live without them. I’m a huuuge fan of jeans.

Tight or not (and let’s not forget there are lots of nots), Ripped or not, White or black or colored… It used to be hard to find the right fit, but it became much easier to find the one I like, thanks to skinny jeans and spandex.

3. Knit Tops

Since the college days, I loved knit wears religiously. It lasts forever as long as you store it properly, and they don’t go out of fashion (yeah, as you can guess i’m not talking about the ugly holiday sweater, haha).

Layering with other shirts also look fashionable.

4. One Piece Dresses

Easy and efficient.

You just throw one on and coordinate with a long necklace, you are ready to take off.

5. Cardigan or Blazers

Yep, another essentials for your casual outfits.

But, the reason blazers are essential for your closet is that it doesn’t just accompany casual looks but business looks as well.

As many of our PinKixxes are, for a career woman, a blazer is a must-have to carry at all times just in case any occasion you might face or anyone you might meet on a short notice. A blazer changes your casual look instantly to semi-business one, even with your blue jeans.

Cardigans make you look more relaxed and elegant. Also it’s a plus that it’s easy to carry around.

6. Long Skirts

Long skirts don’t have to be formal. I actually have to say wearing a long skirt is even more comfortable than wearing jean pants if it’s possible. And at the same time, it creates a mature look I love.

A quick useful tip for your shopping this weekend. If you find any cloth that fit you well, you might want to get them in different colors and multiple ones if possible. You might not find them again.

Please remember your style and colors when you shop too.

How to Choose Your Jewelry Practically

Right, Jewelry and Practicality. How would that go together?

Ever since the dawn of human race, jewelry managed to be a constant presence and driving force of many fashion and cultural changes we experienced through millennia.

Throughout the history, jewelry has been integrated with people’s daily life. Not as a luxury item, but as natural necessity to express themselves.

It also showcased wealth, rank, political, religious affiliation or affections toward someone. That’s how jewelry was enabled to become timeless. It also linked with art and religion, and showed unique culture of different regions.

colorful jewelry

colorful jewelry image from

As a part of everyday life, jewelry should show who you are and express what you want. It does need to be functional and to do its job. There’s a reason why you’re wearing jewelry. Remember that.

Now, let’s see how we can choose our new jewelry smart.

1. Consider what you have

There are two ways when you think about this. The reason you’re considering buying new jewelry now is: either you’re replacing the one you already have or you’re getting what you don’t have yet.

If you consider what you have when you make a new purchase on jewelry, you can get something you’ll actually use and stop yourself from wasting your effort.

2. Ask yourself what you need it for

Do you need a new necklace for the upcoming gala? Do you need something different from what you have because you need something for your new job?

Trying something new is always exciting, but don’t let excitement cloud your ‘reason.’ You have to plan ahead and think about what you’re going to wear your new jewelry with and when you need them for.

Don’t buy a jewelry because it is pretty. Don’t wear the jewelry because other people are wearing it. Again, you have a reason why you wear jewelry every time, and it has to show ‘you.’ Otherwise, you’ll end up storing the jewelry somewhere in the jewelry box and never look at them again.

3. What is your favorite color

matching jewelry for office chic

matching jewelry for office chic from

Are you a silver person or gold person? Are you a colorful person or earthy tone person? Which one would go with your favorite colors or favorite clothes/purses/shoes you put on often?

Plan for your jewelry when you purchase them, so you wouldn’t add more un-need clutters in your jewelry box.

And, remember, whatever you put on, wear them with confidence!
